You can find that <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npFmoHTsqa8"><b>here</b></a>. All went well until it was time to turn the pouch right side out. Then there were major issues:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiSupR4Hm8uePy1YIMgty9dehXHBJ7EBwUCvKwLFUqd0TnTUs0OA8mcOvTY0GkLLlxvZbsvZ2HjqiX2nzEHlGRUOQjp0bWC7W-2DP93Uow-tZLXNtM7j3TvJquftlumn4yoAH1LiL6d2vQLxbWomQtStpT19NIG1920pYy6QiH_q76CGHbYi_m9gY9P=s640" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiSupR4Hm8uePy1YIMgty9dehXHBJ7EBwUCvKwLFUqd0TnTUs0OA8mcOvTY0GkLLlxvZbsvZ2HjqiX2nzEHlGRUOQjp0bWC7W-2DP93Uow-tZLXNtM7j3TvJquftlumn4yoAH1LiL6d2vQLxbWomQtStpT19NIG1920pYy6QiH_q76CGHbYi_m9gY9P=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p>This tutorial has you quilt your wrapper to batting and lining fabric. I set my stitch length pretty high, but the shiny vinyl didn't want to feed through my sewing machine very well. It resulted in a very short stitch length (despite being set at 3.5 on my Baby Lock). When I attempted to turn the pouch right side out, it tore along several of the quilting stitches. The stitches were close together, and acted as a perforation. So, after much frustration, I found a different tutorial, one that didn't include quilting the front and back of the bag. See this tutorial <a href="https://www.punkinpatterns.com/blog/2011/03/sweet-tooth-pouch.html"><b>here</b></a>. </p><p>This is what I ended up making:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjHkBvu4_iOr76sH2_tWR_S6YHI2U6B772GnBevM43tCLMyMX35cYBY7Kfrzf9x7gosR3wFedhAq4exp0rKGsKp_KJcGelB89mylq2pL81wjVI9ZysosymI8MqaGliiwVVn2DglOeCL7xYrYlDUBykXkYuPjuLcu9eCJaqPA32ChTb5e_ru-7-4yR51=s640" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjHkBvu4_iOr76sH2_tWR_S6YHI2U6B772GnBevM43tCLMyMX35cYBY7Kfrzf9x7gosR3wFedhAq4exp0rKGsKp_KJcGelB89mylq2pL81wjVI9ZysosymI8MqaGliiwVVn2DglOeCL7xYrYlDUBykXkYuPjuLcu9eCJaqPA32ChTb5e_ru-7-4yR51=s320" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgDwNeGTmHA_LTH2MTQnzxNS-8DBR4B5FTBHiPRvZFGaBZIEGeMAzMdh6XdXznni1lha_2LiKwh47CybRQnqNH4QJ7Wxu0Weo3xOJ8pN_GvumE9tewCRwDuyeXAbXdR54n3ASvh8dXGxC1jGe0Wo07HwysyrOQ8NxwU49QXu3hIvVIWAq6U6W22rozt=s640" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="640" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgDwNeGTmHA_LTH2MTQnzxNS-8DBR4B5FTBHiPRvZFGaBZIEGeMAzMdh6XdXznni1lha_2LiKwh47CybRQnqNH4QJ7Wxu0Weo3xOJ8pN_GvumE9tewCRwDuyeXAbXdR54n3ASvh8dXGxC1jGe0Wo07HwysyrOQ8NxwU49QXu3hIvVIWAq6U6W22rozt=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What will I do different next time? I will not use a clear candy bag! I purposely put the lining in with the front side inside out, so the cute fabric would show through. There are other things that I don't like showing through the clear vinyl, like seams, etc. It's a great tutorial though, and I will definitely use it again. I do have one more bag of the Kit Kats, but it hasn't been opened yet........ I might have to open it soon and try again!</div><br /><p><br /></p>Karen Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08628279246477636637noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935255693673091779.post-90765805784146853572022-01-15T19:14:00.000-06:002022-01-15T19:14:31.725-06:00A few projects<p>It has been a long time since I've been here! It's from Treehouse Textiles, The Crossroads Quilt. I got it <a href="https://www.treehousetextiles.com.au/workshop/crossroads-pdf-pattern/" target="_blank">here</a>. It goes together pretty quickly, and I love the scrappiness of it. Of course it barely put a dent in my scraps! It finishes at about 57"x64", so lap sized. Of course it could easily be made larger or smaller. I am planning to hand quilt it, it's time for a new hand quilting project! I will use the #8 pearl cotton.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also made some salsa today - 2 kinds, tomato and pineapple. I made a big batch with tomatoes, a friend of mine had given me a bunch from her garden. All the ingredients used were fresh, with the exception of the jalapeno's. I didn't have any fresh on hand, so I opened this huge jar of them that I had. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm-D3A_l_g519Oy3XE94pHvc8Ahao80SrLKIrhDd8NbSN0WHJd8N5nmOUJ3sU2viakXcaYa84EG0iZp0vDss1Tkr-DQf0uOSjO6VEYabdd-0iaeEa4bpQsS-cSm0QBJF4EIUb14djR-L8/s1379/IMG_0693.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1338" data-original-width="1379" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm-D3A_l_g519Oy3XE94pHvc8Ahao80SrLKIrhDd8NbSN0WHJd8N5nmOUJ3sU2viakXcaYa84EG0iZp0vDss1Tkr-DQf0uOSjO6VEYabdd-0iaeEa4bpQsS-cSm0QBJF4EIUb14djR-L8/s640/IMG_0693.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And here's the pineapple -</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiFpCS1EYB4Q5wKANEVnrDpWYLm2IaAAGzdOUrubWPwZpoBrd4oUxC8bLxKn_V98E0SmcgDxUSKljAQHrFyftdY1pcWY0DvFU3bt_brWgDhUNxM0GU7b0BxQK9LqOGCUpaexQxhrYqmC4/s1331/IMG_0694.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1331" data-original-width="1318" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiFpCS1EYB4Q5wKANEVnrDpWYLm2IaAAGzdOUrubWPwZpoBrd4oUxC8bLxKn_V98E0SmcgDxUSKljAQHrFyftdY1pcWY0DvFU3bt_brWgDhUNxM0GU7b0BxQK9LqOGCUpaexQxhrYqmC4/s640/IMG_0694.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also want to show you a recent quilt finish -</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjktfyJhkdALPrIuLzt81rOkczhGke96BOGZ3HTuDe7_IV0opeUss1U37HqCn_H0jQg4SYhrF_zH8dFFJgFcKxSvXfXz8I6JBYoaBVJdxauGg8gJ7z-Buaf0Hb3IncdNjiilHrQeF7dlRs/s2016/IMG_0678.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjktfyJhkdALPrIuLzt81rOkczhGke96BOGZ3HTuDe7_IV0opeUss1U37HqCn_H0jQg4SYhrF_zH8dFFJgFcKxSvXfXz8I6JBYoaBVJdxauGg8gJ7z-Buaf0Hb3IncdNjiilHrQeF7dlRs/s640/IMG_0678.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The color looks a bit hazy on this picture. It really is a vibrant, bright red. Moda's Bella Solids, Betty's Red. This is the Dutch Rose pattern. It was a freebie I found online, and looks a lot like the Swoon pattern that has been quite popular. This is a late graduation gift for a great niece. She graduated last year, before all this Covid stuff. She lives in Arizona, and I'm not too excited to ship it, I'm afraid it might get lost. Maybe that's irrational on my part. Anyhow, I think it will have to wait until I can deliver it in person. I made this with the tutorial found <span style="color: #e06666;"><a href="http://doublenickelquilts.blogspot.com/2012/03/scrappy-nickel-swoon-quilt-block.html" target="_blank">here</a>. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That's all for now........ more projects in the works and I'll have stuff to blog about again in a few days! </div><p></p><p><br /></p>Karen Hhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08628279246477636637noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4935255693673091779.post-46499078742715661402020-08-05T06:56:00.000-05:002020-08-05T06:56:54.066-05:00Random projects from the past few monthsI have been keeping busy with projects - working on them in the evening and weekends, as I've still been going to work every day during this pandemic. They are moving to a new place. I thought she could use some new pillowcases.... Ideally the pillowcase in the middle should have had the fabric running the other way, so the overall design would show on the width of the pillowcase. Unfortunately, I did not have enough fabric to make it that way. Oh well, it's for a 3 year old, she'll enjoy it just as much this way!<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBJQfd89cGEnXLz4OMYbdgLJ4FYgxAT0if_M9uFcvZpwCpBThF_bt4eRVkzGx3le8W200K4VKObLRtkNNaKkbRCPKqxK-1gc-eYkOlUOTzBG0dC7GAzcEAPhJwuJbyrwTbPBPznNmSFs/s2016/IMG_0632.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="2016" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRBJQfd89cGEnXLz4OMYbdgLJ4FYgxAT0if_M9uFcvZpwCpBThF_bt4eRVkzGx3le8W200K4VKObLRtkNNaKkbRCPKqxK-1gc-eYkOlUOTzBG0dC7GAzcEAPhJwuJbyrwTbPBPznNmSFs/s320/IMG_0632.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I seem to be obscessed with donut fabric lately. I'll share what I can! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZmllfycoPwwNLhImcg6k8W4HMO0NKui_ts5epi66aDdiwytGAm4RGilBE-qQVfOaTua-0Scw7rN9urzHcpdTKHlD4frXNh_K9sMAOgfC19-fqlt1EVMUKKnD3dQ1GK_0zMCtYmj8Zyq0/s1600/Noel+quilt+top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZmllfycoPwwNLhImcg6k8W4HMO0NKui_ts5epi66aDdiwytGAm4RGilBE-qQVfOaTua-0Scw7rN9urzHcpdTKHlD4frXNh_K9sMAOgfC19-fqlt1EVMUKKnD3dQ1GK_0zMCtYmj8Zyq0/s400/Noel+quilt+top.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I got this quilt top done, and was hoping it would be a finished quilt by now, but I got distracted by some other projects. I am planning to hand quilt it, it's not too big, about 40"x 56". I have it all quilted around the "Noel", and I did keep going, but will need to take a bunch of the quilting out, as it is rather bunched up. I used Hobbs Heirloom fusible batting, and at first I thought it was working great. That was until it came loose. I will need to try and fuse it again, and/or baste it, I suppose.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago, and the group of us did a Christmas sock exchange. Maybe you've seen the idea out there, if not, you can Google it. Lots of ideas for a game to play and exchange the socks. Kind of like "dirty Bingo" that we played years ago to exchange white elephant gifts. Anyhow, I found Frosty the Snowman socks online at Target. I added my dollar store purchases. Second photo is Bumpkin, letting me know that my loot passes inspection.</div>

Top Rudolph and bottom snowman are for my granddaughter. The middle 2 I gave to a friend for her 2 grandsons. They were so fun to make. I found a free toddler bib pattern online. The other pattern I already had, and I have used a lot. This time I made my own bias binding......... (ooohhh fancy!)</div>

Ok, I think that is it for now! I will be babysitting my granddaughter today. She will be 2 next month. I am looking forward to a fun day!</div>

I'm thinking they were made in the late 90's... so about 20 years ago. Anyhow, I didn't think to take a picture of the blocks alone.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hy9l7KIcQ5TiFE4l5hSlC2P6QOF8AToFweF8nn-v61B3ahQFpUnn4QuL51oWMXEHfCxfLZPnIa_l34kuYiy049NcJ-E_i6p-Ec22SDrluP-itzNXAuNA7y4eWqujbTQzaeOQ7fGqyA8/s1600/c+quilt+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="501" data-original-width="640" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hy9l7KIcQ5TiFE4l5hSlC2P6QOF8AToFweF8nn-v61B3ahQFpUnn4QuL51oWMXEHfCxfLZPnIa_l34kuYiy049NcJ-E_i6p-Ec22SDrluP-itzNXAuNA7y4eWqujbTQzaeOQ7fGqyA8/s320/c+quilt+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I only had 24 of the blocks, and they were made with 3" squares, so it wasn't going to make a very big quilt. So, I decided to make some hourglass blocks to use with them. I had the red plaid on hand, it came from some old stuff that I got when a friend of mine was cleaning out her parents' house. There was just enough of it. The off-whites were from my stash too, I used about 4 different ones that I had. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpSAnG3NN4pHRvPZfAMAaAt2y9lWkJmjYFKxn_l_RGyOuZHhWZJV6PVtDc0WP3WELJNkD2zXoRDS_JfIKiGH-LFX3lqHc9b0MKfUCrmwX8hPsRpcrMZsOnfKUzfZxSKN9NgHHyvVFJQKQ/s1600/c+quilt+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpSAnG3NN4pHRvPZfAMAaAt2y9lWkJmjYFKxn_l_RGyOuZHhWZJV6PVtDc0WP3WELJNkD2zXoRDS_JfIKiGH-LFX3lqHc9b0MKfUCrmwX8hPsRpcrMZsOnfKUzfZxSKN9NgHHyvVFJQKQ/s320/c+quilt+3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you look closely, there are some really old ones in here. I remember making Christmas stockings for my boys out of some of this fabric.... so that puts it over 30 years old. And there are some non-Christmas ones as well, I don't know if you can see it in the photo above, but that block in the center, the burgundy colored square has chickens on it. It truly was a "use what you have" at the time.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZpHf7SkqaMv3fuN0YxuV1osWnM4rk5h4RP9JUNJd9Y8vnluUIrJiicnyQqMQhr6K1b-SV9dCy9c7GkQ0rPgPGHydAtvVK8unAmtQ1oD8AWaxu9Ub0Vn6Wst13cWjyNY-CPNGq6w5weCs/s1600/c+quilt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="640" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZpHf7SkqaMv3fuN0YxuV1osWnM4rk5h4RP9JUNJd9Y8vnluUIrJiicnyQqMQhr6K1b-SV9dCy9c7GkQ0rPgPGHydAtvVK8unAmtQ1oD8AWaxu9Ub0Vn6Wst13cWjyNY-CPNGq6w5weCs/s320/c+quilt+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The color looks different outside today! Now to find backing. I'm sure I've got something in my stash, and then I'll need to get it quilted. I thought very briefly about hand quilting it. But I don't know when I would get it done. So off to the long armer it will go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are making little house blocks in our block exchange group in the quilt guild I belong to. There are 12 of us in the exchange. We each need to make 12 blocks of 2 different houses, so 24 in all. Here are mine -- they really did go together quickly and were fun to make!</div>

We were instructed to make them in "happy" colors, and we were not to use black or gray. I can't remember what was said about brown, but I really wanted to use the brown bias plaid for the chimney on the first block, so I did. Hopefully I didn't break any rules!</div>

Yes, I am still around. I do read and follow several blogs, and I thought that maybe it's time to post a few things here. I have been working on stuff the past few years, just kind of fell out of the blogging habit..... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPbZDT04KqD6G-FtbJufGnt0HNJAaJnPnhMRP_uZlcXtxRDFHhiRGYS7x_wKjAosZSDt0Pu4MCc3mHD6gTYV6fAb1fn8NEsWKCQp-pDKkZ-XpSfLUO0qeTTiQFweWlZ45g2VcmQnmLhQo/s1600/IMG_4853.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPbZDT04KqD6G-FtbJufGnt0HNJAaJnPnhMRP_uZlcXtxRDFHhiRGYS7x_wKjAosZSDt0Pu4MCc3mHD6gTYV6fAb1fn8NEsWKCQp-pDKkZ-XpSfLUO0qeTTiQFweWlZ45g2VcmQnmLhQo/s400/IMG_4853.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first project is my "home" pillow, made entirely from scraps. I even pieced the background with different text prints. I basically followed the tutorial found <a href="http://www.myquiltinfatuation.com/2017/11/home-state-pillow-tutorial.html" target="_blank">here</a>. Now that i've made the first one, I'm ready to make more. And luckily, Iowa is a fairly easy state to make!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOsOBA9-YYQYVtrqrj7t1lrMEwHnxG91nPY-RNoFambX3HDIIM4EwbqCe8FM8VKPgCSXHGbAe7ypzGuMslCPSSGwD4E4Lu8g9LEN136ffafLtPIr17uEuUdYMfBa0Vnq52WBNlNqAePlk/s1600/IMG_4838.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOsOBA9-YYQYVtrqrj7t1lrMEwHnxG91nPY-RNoFambX3HDIIM4EwbqCe8FM8VKPgCSXHGbAe7ypzGuMslCPSSGwD4E4Lu8g9LEN136ffafLtPIr17uEuUdYMfBa0Vnq52WBNlNqAePlk/s320/IMG_4838.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Next up is the baby quilt I made for a friends new grandson. I basically took layer cake (10") squares and did the quilt as you go method, quilting them with the white right to the batting squares, and then trimming everything up to the same size, and joining them together. This is the first time I've attempted this in a straight set, instead of wonky. Wonky is much easier, because you don't have to be concerned with how things will line up!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGbocWjaQAgt6I4O4M3yFvxK9B02CXGGM7kYbCQX4cCpCgEf9oVkbX_iyYHLqO6R5zdr4hhxF4t4mufqz6H_3YsPYAm5NGvuewmyhifTFVNQ4NWosKTDrArSocJo5ytV_iur99TL8Em9s/s1600/IMG_4850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGbocWjaQAgt6I4O4M3yFvxK9B02CXGGM7kYbCQX4cCpCgEf9oVkbX_iyYHLqO6R5zdr4hhxF4t4mufqz6H_3YsPYAm5NGvuewmyhifTFVNQ4NWosKTDrArSocJo5ytV_iur99TL8Em9s/s320/IMG_4850.jpg" width="240" /></a>Anyhow, here you can see the back, too..... i used a multi-colored dot on a white background. Then there is just minimal quilting around each black to attach the backing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The foxes are kind of fun, and I have more than enough to do another baby quilt with this fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am hoping to blog a little more often than every 3 years.......... :) Maybe once a month? We'll see...</div>

I want to thank all of you for the kind comments on my last post. I have been working on a few things - it's time to show you those......</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The kids and I made a trip to Colorado in March, for my nephew's wedding. Kind of a windy day, but here is the quilt I gave them for a wedding gift.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoz7ZTif-KAoS78KJj0o9zOMkIZ5b2Mat849ScDbrEro1Uccv0MaB8r0U9Jk9lZDlHZK1WD2iK-3kJoM13CyP0xQ-ZKv9wk0rCHTk5DRkxHr_gxV184o8BW47HIQHAPpJdS_97lcvTOA8/s1600/IMG_0723.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoz7ZTif-KAoS78KJj0o9zOMkIZ5b2Mat849ScDbrEro1Uccv0MaB8r0U9Jk9lZDlHZK1WD2iK-3kJoM13CyP0xQ-ZKv9wk0rCHTk5DRkxHr_gxV184o8BW47HIQHAPpJdS_97lcvTOA8/s320/IMG_0723.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Later in March, <a href="http://joetulipsquilts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Julie</a> and I took a class, we were pattern testers for Terry Atkinson. Here is the top for the quilt pattern we tested. It's called Wanderlust. It's at the quilters now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also got this top pieced, it's a Pieced Tree Pattern called Jelly Jive. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It uses one Jelly Roll, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
or 40 2 1/2 inch strips. It's also at the quilter now.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I planted some flowers.....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And finished the "<a href="https://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2014/03/23/tutorial-growing-up-odd-quilt/" target="_blank">Growing Up Odd</a>" Quilt. Great tutorial - just follow the link!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I mainly strip pieced it, and I used 1 1/2 inch strips, rather then 2 inch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm keeping this one!</div>

This is my little "cheater" quilt. Tutorial found <a href="http://www.patchworkposse.com/pre-quilted-fabric-baby-quilt/" target="_blank">here</a>. It didn't say how much fabric to buy......If I make one again, I will buy more, so the side borders can be wider. I bought what was left on the bolt, which if I remember correctly was a yard and a third. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I guess it's a good thing we never know what life will bring us... what the future has in store for us. My life as I knew it, has changed forever. It will never be the same.</div>

Some day I hope I feel like blogging again, about quilts and other things I have been working on. But not right now....</div>

It's a beautiful, sunny day here in northern Iowa! Temps are in the 30's, and there is very little wind. Very nice weather for January! I have been sewing in the evenings... some nights I have to drag myself away from the couch... Seems like I would rather lie around and watch TV.... Oh well...... I did manage to finish this quilt top:</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHryqtNMgDfr_gq9Uvj36IonWS2Evr1YWKchJrJlNYjx9E4awdqTtZnM3YUWzBb46eGe7Tg3zozsDFbyV8cLhZJdUHnDwMvChbIFCvAJ-KKNim9Rf5QV2GiGo-7DJN4z61DmxxNYje89Q/s1600/IMG_0636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHryqtNMgDfr_gq9Uvj36IonWS2Evr1YWKchJrJlNYjx9E4awdqTtZnM3YUWzBb46eGe7Tg3zozsDFbyV8cLhZJdUHnDwMvChbIFCvAJ-KKNim9Rf5QV2GiGo-7DJN4z61DmxxNYje89Q/s1600/IMG_0636.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's a tutorial I found online, the quilt is called "Growing Up Odd". Cute name. I kind of did grow up odd. :) Anyhow, you can find the tutorial <a href="https://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2014/03/23/tutorial-growing-up-odd-quilt/" target="_blank">here.</a> I used 1.5 inch strips, and made less blocks. I think mine measures about 44"x55". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also got the "Film at Five Quilt" back from the quilter. It too is from "Wedding Dress Blue" blog, and the link to this tutorial is <a href="https://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/tutorial-film-at-five-quilt/" target="_blank">here.</a> I know I've said this before, but she has lots of great tutorials for using up scraps. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPwRRK7LpUD0eMM_BVUmdPe1VygkfGOn4C3Dhrl1jsbXWM9Y1buks0fAeKaReOkelKic4cV5It-zL-SrHQteDjTbNb3udGSu6xUg5W9TktrFSWULZI_TIoQif8HH-CG7cMZ7mKkP0wsnc/s1600/IMG_0639.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPwRRK7LpUD0eMM_BVUmdPe1VygkfGOn4C3Dhrl1jsbXWM9Y1buks0fAeKaReOkelKic4cV5It-zL-SrHQteDjTbNb3udGSu6xUg5W9TktrFSWULZI_TIoQif8HH-CG7cMZ7mKkP0wsnc/s1600/IMG_0639.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mine should really be called "Film at Four", since I made it 4 blocks x 4 blocks, rather than 5 x 5. I used navy and white gingham checks for the binding. Something I've had in my stash for probably 20 years....... :) I could tell it was 100% cotton though.... not like most gingham out there. Why is it that most gingham is a cotton/poly blend?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lots of bright sunlight and shadows today..........not the best for pictures, but better than taking them indoors! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used my Accuquilt cutter and the 1.5" strip die that DH got me for Christmas. It made the project go much quicker, but it still takes a lot of time! One more row of blocks, and then it will be time for sashing!</div>

Just nothing here to show for it. I worked on <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/grand-illusion-mystery.html" target="_blank">Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt.</a> I made mine smaller - I made half the units, thinking I'd make 2 baby quilts. When I was putting it together, I decided to make one quilt, but only use 9 of the blocks, not all 12 that I had made. Here is what I came up with...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj7KxO61L03anm6uTkhP3YHjnbW2VYDsC7UZmZzErxQBB-ehYnF9JsaIE_9ErrooYUBPwZlMl3DWG0_IRyWhbRIf-AjKckBORQTba002IocT2ylcg3jXP1ytcwWLseChZOF3Izp7AHrnY/s1600/IMG_0606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj7KxO61L03anm6uTkhP3YHjnbW2VYDsC7UZmZzErxQBB-ehYnF9JsaIE_9ErrooYUBPwZlMl3DWG0_IRyWhbRIf-AjKckBORQTba002IocT2ylcg3jXP1ytcwWLseChZOF3Izp7AHrnY/s1600/IMG_0606.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
It is really a busy quilt - it requires you to step back a little in order to see the pattern. <br />
I made a few bags for Christmas and Birthday gifts back in December....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9yeicv85sPzMlInpzQxZW3GvNGp-6_mExDoLkU643afJFkYJAtsIgHS_9yLSxRVJ6mlHGTAQOzAUVvDClkXAasFLeRDgiDqgv1DHLfty8z_ZqTqUdJSXqPpm5Qo23LNrpeJVHOO6Jk7Q/s1600/IMG_0546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9yeicv85sPzMlInpzQxZW3GvNGp-6_mExDoLkU643afJFkYJAtsIgHS_9yLSxRVJ6mlHGTAQOzAUVvDClkXAasFLeRDgiDqgv1DHLfty8z_ZqTqUdJSXqPpm5Qo23LNrpeJVHOO6Jk7Q/s1600/IMG_0546.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These were for my Dachshund-loving sister.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also made some pillows from fabric placemats - these were for my son and daughter-in-law. The placemats were from Target. Lots of easy tutorials out there on how to make them. Basically, you pick open a seam (about 3 inches), stuff them, and sew the seam back together. About a 30 minute project.</div>

I feel like I have been really busy this past week, and I haven't had much time to work on quilty/sewing stuff. I have managed to start putting together my Celtic Solstice quilt. This was Bonnie Hunter's (Quiltville.com) mystery quilt from last year. She will be starting this years mystery quilt the day after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure yet if I'm in or not.......</div>
<div align="center">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a few rows to go. Then I need to decide what I want for borders. I'm not sure I want to make it as complicated as Bonnie's. We'll see what I come up with!</div>

I'll off to Des Moines..... hoping to get some Christmas shopping done!</div>

October has really been a busy month. I don't know where the time has gone! Hubby and I celebrated our 31st anniversary on the 1st. I don't have a good picture of us now. In fact, I don't even have a bad picture of us now. But here is our engagement picture......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The funny thing about this picture is, John's glasses have no glass in them. They were the light sensitive lenses, and the photographer didn't want them to turn dark for the picture. So he took out a little screwdriver and popped out the lenses...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also celebrated son #1's 30th birthday...</div>

Don't mention that you saw him here...... I don't think he would appreciate it! :)</div>

If you read my blog regularly, you may remember that my youngest son got married last October. You can read about it <a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2013/10/just-few-wedding-photos.html" target="_blank">here</a>. At their wedding, the guests had an opportunity to sign a quilt block. I finally got the quilt all put together this summer. I just got it back from the quilter a couple of weeks ago. I finally finished the binding on Sunday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi49JAEcI1grVydhKNBzZOO39fpCOqugBjNLVhB9oRpBf4b36QJHzznzrmGVbjb4col2o_WqwXjw_ncjsG9ZwC6MkyQRO8Q7HTeYRGNOnnh-9sysxYMY4J3eMOfC84TOdwNN4-mmhDQ1Cs/s1600/IMG_0370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi49JAEcI1grVydhKNBzZOO39fpCOqugBjNLVhB9oRpBf4b36QJHzznzrmGVbjb4col2o_WqwXjw_ncjsG9ZwC6MkyQRO8Q7HTeYRGNOnnh-9sysxYMY4J3eMOfC84TOdwNN4-mmhDQ1Cs/s1600/IMG_0370.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a nice sideways picture that I took on the clothesline today. It is a big quilt, and it's hard to get a picture of it. We didn't get as may guests to sign a block as I'd hoped. But that's okay, the blank ones look good, too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found the tutorial online, <a href="http://laughingduck.typepad.com/photos/postit_note_quilt_tutoria/index.html" target="_blank">here</a>. It went together quickly (don't know what my excuse is for having it take so long to compete!)I love the way it turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a sweet message from my sister-in-law.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And another message..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a leftover quilt block to make the label. And I promise to get a picture of the happy couple with their quilt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's been awhile. Again. I finally managed to get this quilt done -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's a single Irish Chain quilt. The squares finish at 1 1/2 inches. I used almost all the rest of the Moda Max and Whiskers fabric that I had. This was a fat quarter bundle that I had purchased quite while ago. I made a few other quilts with this fabric. Look <a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2012/10/quilts-for-twin-baby-boys.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2014/05/2-finished-baby-quilts.html" target="_blank">here</a>, oh and <a href="http://www.smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2013/09/2-finishes-one-big-one-small.html" target="_blank">here</a>, too. I did buy a couple of yards of one of the prints in the line that I could still find, and it's here on the back.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is the "Film at Five" Quilt, tutorial found <a href="http://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2012/09/24/tutorial-film-at-five-quilt/" target="_blank">here</a>. I made mine a little smaller, using only 16 squares, instead of the 25 squares used in the tutorial. When I started this quilt, I intended to give it to my sister's mother-in-law, as she has requested a quilt from me, primarily in blues. Now that it's a top, I think I might be using it as a wedding gift instead, and will make a quilt that is a tad bit smaller for my sister's mother-in-law. This measures a little over 70 inches square. I'll get it quilted and then decide. I do have one in the works for the wedding gift, I just don't have the top done yet, and the wedding is November 1st. So I guess I'll just wait and see how it goes! </div>

It really flew by. I got a few things done, but not too much......<br />
I finished this baby quilt -<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHrq3dwVxkGb4NlMjV-i9r-VkOzBvQojxBEPXpp87gu8ML5P5FZc5fwDGJirbbtox1laMb2WNIxPB1XDL7PACBs2-iJy8eFaUcZzxTrYsZ_AqK7h04K7Hw8n3oo3Ylpo6_zA3NU55_Bxs/s1600/IMG_0253.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHrq3dwVxkGb4NlMjV-i9r-VkOzBvQojxBEPXpp87gu8ML5P5FZc5fwDGJirbbtox1laMb2WNIxPB1XDL7PACBs2-iJy8eFaUcZzxTrYsZ_AqK7h04K7Hw8n3oo3Ylpo6_zA3NU55_Bxs/s1600/IMG_0253.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
at least I think I finished it. Now that I see the picture of it, I'm wondering if I finished all the hand quilting in the gray x's. I'll have to check!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also got 9 blocks done for <a href="http://www.blocklotto.com/" target="_blank">Block Lotto</a> this month. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here they are - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ-4JIbKsUh_ByyszyZHZmfPaXMpTDynHmQabnRu2kjqTunephA5JCTbvphTc0JuMW4JsMSIH4dkvjPHGBrhip3FWUms2KRETCrOVD_UMHpjy1zqN5_v3lHgBu4njWgcCK9woneJ_AlBE/s1600/IMG_0274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ-4JIbKsUh_ByyszyZHZmfPaXMpTDynHmQabnRu2kjqTunephA5JCTbvphTc0JuMW4JsMSIH4dkvjPHGBrhip3FWUms2KRETCrOVD_UMHpjy1zqN5_v3lHgBu4njWgcCK9woneJ_AlBE/s1600/IMG_0274.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's still time to join in, and they are super fast and easy to make.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, that's all for now. Maybe now that summer's almost over, I'll have more time for blogging......</div>

Hello, is anybody there? </div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
I realize it has been a little quiet here. That doesn't mean I haven't been working on stuff. And I seem to be really busy with life in general. </div>
<div align="center">
I finished this baby quilt last weekend.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSdDWIlMScrYlILlzhEqFQEPMky-g7_bOOONXJm02lcAYBEEBbaAlIvzxX5ySu2zxzL43kaSSdX74-07WlnvoOxhjOOdn3W6muw7zhFtJPKQchyYw2rG-xXErNjIpJuuVeYXrgHtAIiBA/s1600/2014-07-11+baby+quilt.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSdDWIlMScrYlILlzhEqFQEPMky-g7_bOOONXJm02lcAYBEEBbaAlIvzxX5ySu2zxzL43kaSSdX74-07WlnvoOxhjOOdn3W6muw7zhFtJPKQchyYw2rG-xXErNjIpJuuVeYXrgHtAIiBA/s1600/2014-07-11+baby+quilt.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This went together quickly. I based it on a quilt that was in the book, "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Skip-Borders-Patterns-Modern-Quilts/dp/1604680814" target="_blank">Skip the Borders</a>", but I made my rectangles smaller, and left off a section. See the fabric that says "baseball" in the center? It is an all-over print, with the words, and gloves, bats and helmets. I used it for the backing. Oh, and the book is great - lots of neat quilts in it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also had a challenge quilt to finish for our guild. It is at the LAQ right now, and hopefully Shelley will soon be working her magic on it. Here's how it looked before I sent it off......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG6GzzMymb6-MhSXrySU4bAtNcauE2Dr1cgtWEBseMNBBaoHKq90h2_-x98ajUV2fysQhCOz35euPyOf0GCsJzniLD8ygBR_nohUBOtqGKljnkrL9IhPyx9AV_13dFoEIW1n8oO47eVr4/s1600/flimsy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG6GzzMymb6-MhSXrySU4bAtNcauE2Dr1cgtWEBseMNBBaoHKq90h2_-x98ajUV2fysQhCOz35euPyOf0GCsJzniLD8ygBR_nohUBOtqGKljnkrL9IhPyx9AV_13dFoEIW1n8oO47eVr4/s1600/flimsy.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's from the book "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Scrap-Basket-Sensations-Great-Quilts-Strips/dp/1604680148/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1405168698&sr=1-1&keywords=scrap+basket+sensations" target="_blank">Scrap Basket Sensations</a>". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's another book with lots of great patterns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are busy getting ready for RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI stands for "The Register's Great Bike Ride Across Iowa". The Register is a newspaper, the Des Moines Register. We can expect 10,000 bicyclists coming through our town on July 22nd. Lots to get ready. My friend<a href="http://joetulipsquilts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"> Julie</a> is known around town for her artistic abilities. She <strike>volunteered </strike>was coerced into freshening up the signs from the last time they came through, back in 2005. Here's some of the signs we have:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are intended to be the Burma-shave type signs you used to see along the roads in the countryside. We'll see how that goes.........</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lots to do this weekend. I will be leaving tomorrow for a few days of training for my job. That always seems to happen at the busiest time of year, too...</div>

If you are looking for a quick and easy quilt to make, I recommend the Cloud 9 quilt, by Villa Rosa Designs. </div>
<div align="center">
Here is the one I made - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBKo1DVuIkATw2EuNEIIjPxsZrua0xXwQJw6r4MXazwtSAeJQLlz3XdLqs4CgyvvUTmEaWTzfM6tPAwrlGaowEl8Wbe3sZ1q24RSVqmzw94Hu0ra9hydegTDq5ioDEePt7GR9Uy3XEoEQ/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBKo1DVuIkATw2EuNEIIjPxsZrua0xXwQJw6r4MXazwtSAeJQLlz3XdLqs4CgyvvUTmEaWTzfM6tPAwrlGaowEl8Wbe3sZ1q24RSVqmzw94Hu0ra9hydegTDq5ioDEePt7GR9Uy3XEoEQ/s1600/005.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was hard to get a good picture in the bright sunlight!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this for a benefit - it will be a part of the silent auction. I hope it raises lots of money for them. I might just need to go and bid on it myself!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The back is just something I bought on clearance - </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think it's about 54" x 70".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will definitely be making this pattern again!</div>

I have been working on stuff, just not posting about it here.</div>
<div align="center">
I need to get better at that! Anyhow, I finished 2 baby quilts over the weekend. The first one is the chevron (zig zag?) quilt I talked about in my last post. </div>
<div align="center">
Here it is:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMDF861OAWlXff56Yn0qpmHJS3yvA7upO2xH0PQeY3RL8-lbDUhgl99B_IHs2EpahSli9FvdzrXoV8iPPvy8LJMe-5ataTq21yvqQfNtuEAxJpG9ZuBtEa4cecfAlpozREUpnGImNfzvY/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNbfqqpdXHLY5Y3al9nOorRdPYmBhdL7Y-863K2KKjycAVgMAw-6L8iLb0gFX1UX4YCZjAf4gAjOPrBlc4DhbHWryF0vKJcRZe6j4lgWKIN8ldnrU_G4nI_VD_pyOI3hQH_aCdebPJe8M/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNbfqqpdXHLY5Y3al9nOorRdPYmBhdL7Y-863K2KKjycAVgMAw-6L8iLb0gFX1UX4YCZjAf4gAjOPrBlc4DhbHWryF0vKJcRZe6j4lgWKIN8ldnrU_G4nI_VD_pyOI3hQH_aCdebPJe8M/s1600/006.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's made out of leftovers from fat quarters. I bought the entire set of Max and Whiskers by Moda. I think this was the 4th quilt I made from them. When I was done with this quilt, I cut the remaining scraps into 2" squares. I will have that quilt completed soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHMQbTeOhP5dquvOIToq0WXenjYsoy-DkVR2wW-3ADYPh59TDxiQz3DqdJ6_sn_y-OEwfchN0dEXQuFIlfvXgV0GG_udgnvySQPXSLOj7SQM-3hze_zIxBEDWAY0kg9rEmvj9ILvobHT4/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHMQbTeOhP5dquvOIToq0WXenjYsoy-DkVR2wW-3ADYPh59TDxiQz3DqdJ6_sn_y-OEwfchN0dEXQuFIlfvXgV0GG_udgnvySQPXSLOj7SQM-3hze_zIxBEDWAY0kg9rEmvj9ILvobHT4/s1600/008.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I call this the "Charlie Brown" quilt. The black and yellow zig zag reminds me of Charlie Brown's shirt.</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also quilted a disappearing 4-patch top that I made quite awhile ago...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC5Z4bAaZoOJc3O7yzTo3T-LP9lvt5vU4Eo60OjTZBkMw8Ytozxs-hi6ZJtpwfuRzqDPiWiEQxjTfOpqRYV-7LRspOnkINigcNmK4tGqGJ8CH9ZfrM_WtnNt1CQSGY9dTBo4U8xgXNX70/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC5Z4bAaZoOJc3O7yzTo3T-LP9lvt5vU4Eo60OjTZBkMw8Ytozxs-hi6ZJtpwfuRzqDPiWiEQxjTfOpqRYV-7LRspOnkINigcNmK4tGqGJ8CH9ZfrM_WtnNt1CQSGY9dTBo4U8xgXNX70/s1600/001.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's hard to tell in this picture, but the red fabric has white flowers. Because of the flowers, I am thinking this will be for a baby girl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
No piecing on either back..... just one piece of fabric</div>

I quilted them with straight lines. On the first quilt, I followed the zig zag pattern. I did not use a walking foot, and they turned out much better than when I use a walking foot.</div>

The month of April went by in a whirlwind. Here are the projects I finished:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqmmBrnpluCFiiLbW0h_TYwfY2AlTNNjVkU87uO0kN5mN3PYt4tY7OJxFHZksCK4Xz4z2UrRypZ_6F6RnrALPVOuxfxIPAr3_L2X4icrUF1iWdy6Ubqm9y157OAwTtm2AbiAsZRQvfzZ8/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqmmBrnpluCFiiLbW0h_TYwfY2AlTNNjVkU87uO0kN5mN3PYt4tY7OJxFHZksCK4Xz4z2UrRypZ_6F6RnrALPVOuxfxIPAr3_L2X4icrUF1iWdy6Ubqm9y157OAwTtm2AbiAsZRQvfzZ8/s1600/006.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One baby-sized quilt top. I used up most of what I had left of a fat quarter bundle. I made 2 other quilts with these fabrics <a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2012/10/quilts-for-twin-baby-boys.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I also used some in another baby quilt, shown<a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2013/09/2-finishes-one-big-one-small.html" target="_blank"> here</a>. Scroll down on the page to see the quilt I'm referring to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyhow, this quilt top required some really creative piecing, as I was running out of several colors of the fabric. What I had left, I cut into 2 inch squares, and they will be used in an Irish Chain quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdKdL2M72XmKMO_DfK-6QCsOqtcoUrnWacKtGIHP10A0F7Wy-A2QCF7XOxIIGPMl8zTvCJQpoFxOkwjw8zCWsrpU5y9Kq0Njex-8-siK2prMJHlrgEG96ZRg3KalPe0TvTg-wlWYrLfLY/s1600/IMAG0549.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdKdL2M72XmKMO_DfK-6QCsOqtcoUrnWacKtGIHP10A0F7Wy-A2QCF7XOxIIGPMl8zTvCJQpoFxOkwjw8zCWsrpU5y9Kq0Njex-8-siK2prMJHlrgEG96ZRg3KalPe0TvTg-wlWYrLfLY/s1600/IMAG0549.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All of my 9 patches have been pieced, now to get it all put together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxd8117HAGu_u-exBeeN66m35_g1vtiJeoWZtZGKU5kxP6yVZWgXaQS1NG3rm5UZeZGcx7oUyMtNyoGR7Q3yEU4QDImIH4Pp6nQKriKk32-yo02zuBEbuZ2BRubA3Z6SmSrGu6Eh9DvN4/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxd8117HAGu_u-exBeeN66m35_g1vtiJeoWZtZGKU5kxP6yVZWgXaQS1NG3rm5UZeZGcx7oUyMtNyoGR7Q3yEU4QDImIH4Pp6nQKriKk32-yo02zuBEbuZ2BRubA3Z6SmSrGu6Eh9DvN4/s1600/003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made one cross-body bag - has zipper at the top. Excuse the poor picture, it's terribly windy outside! This is made from an old calendar dishtowel, vintage 1968, as you can see below:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKAidOtHyzZ33qfEIN691owIGuRWB0nmxhKweiLFKZUy3c3Dd0GnCoVvSDqcms0_r1Y1ik7h7FwXMsXSli17ntm1AEeL9Nu1LA00pvpKgRUjLQlhRGaAuDT9oJcBpw9QvHG7j9HjP90ho/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7xCcvD9WY5US3UKvqhKMPIXjovGiGg-N8rC-TacQhUZLWOVYd9MCx7yz1A6TJw2ZWCqTaIe8vkU-Gwrn2_C6xJaPYk0Dasp3lqh8mDgyEBl6ZxaZowg_4qe4yLZvzJgG9fTzpjTOGqU/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7xCcvD9WY5US3UKvqhKMPIXjovGiGg-N8rC-TacQhUZLWOVYd9MCx7yz1A6TJw2ZWCqTaIe8vkU-Gwrn2_C6xJaPYk0Dasp3lqh8mDgyEBl6ZxaZowg_4qe4yLZvzJgG9fTzpjTOGqU/s1600/007.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used the calendar on the other side of the bag. I'll try to get a picture of it when the weather is better!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's another one of the front that I took inside:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieZgMT2N6GeEauq-Nueolxob6LrwJiLkOK8kwvS0gZ9YjX6lZhx6W5BGWVHj8_blii5eZWpG56iGaksjei-y4FIu5CvJihsLRXAP7fHisXjpnA7_6vu0a4o5SIDKZlArVqbuqU2W5JyAU/s1600/IMAG0542.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieZgMT2N6GeEauq-Nueolxob6LrwJiLkOK8kwvS0gZ9YjX6lZhx6W5BGWVHj8_blii5eZWpG56iGaksjei-y4FIu5CvJihsLRXAP7fHisXjpnA7_6vu0a4o5SIDKZlArVqbuqU2W5JyAU/s1600/IMAG0542.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made another bag, out of this cute vintage towel...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkCoDYTfA0I2J9LWh8m106DINhFWMwUByFaOy3J60UERSsChYVDJ_3cYeF0pxfG5XEd2rVzRVkW6R6ZjXKC390MvKNc0CkHp5Y3UWOczmkTkpoZthqabLtd7WW5aRDdsdBMyhopoTHAF8/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkCoDYTfA0I2J9LWh8m106DINhFWMwUByFaOy3J60UERSsChYVDJ_3cYeF0pxfG5XEd2rVzRVkW6R6ZjXKC390MvKNc0CkHp5Y3UWOczmkTkpoZthqabLtd7WW5aRDdsdBMyhopoTHAF8/s1600/001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div align="center" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
this one is my favorite:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div align="center">
I took part in <a href="http://www.blocklotto.com/" target="_blank">Block Lotto</a> again in April. Here are the blocks I made:</div>

<div align="center">
Unfortunately, I didn't win them! But my blocks are on the way to their new owners. I will be hand delivering three of them to <a href="http://joetulipsquilts.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Julie</a>, all the way across town. Maybe 1 mile on a good day. :) Yes, she was lucky enough to win. I, on the other hand, have yet to win. I just joined in January, so I guess I need to give it a few months.<br />
<br />
I also made two more of the "Wine 'n Dine" bags.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90Rv6RTo2jid1WmSBwyh9NuiyVGxQRhcJyQFFTD0j0LSsKZAtAdORaiXm3v-CLB_dVU4I9XtYgIdlTHWyAcNQ1P6myNGxy2V-MBAj5PXJmIaPFd820E3IRPjRxKGL68a6RSnB7_3W0dg/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90Rv6RTo2jid1WmSBwyh9NuiyVGxQRhcJyQFFTD0j0LSsKZAtAdORaiXm3v-CLB_dVU4I9XtYgIdlTHWyAcNQ1P6myNGxy2V-MBAj5PXJmIaPFd820E3IRPjRxKGL68a6RSnB7_3W0dg/s1600/007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, even though I haven't been blogging about what my stuff, I have been busy!</div>

I got a few bags done since my last blog entry....</div>
<div align="center">
First, I made another wine bottle bag...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjroj0jdSCvSvWisRySsUd-QOJnOv1kA2mOnzGJ7EDjW4w1RRItSQBw3gFlQy1Otqmvm60-yXJYB2qR3vX0vBUhZ7xLFAXBGVPbNa2UaLIOI9wcAymsW1iOt-7xLh7tuxrH0eOb0Sw0UCU/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjroj0jdSCvSvWisRySsUd-QOJnOv1kA2mOnzGJ7EDjW4w1RRItSQBw3gFlQy1Otqmvm60-yXJYB2qR3vX0vBUhZ7xLFAXBGVPbNa2UaLIOI9wcAymsW1iOt-7xLh7tuxrH0eOb0Sw0UCU/s1600/005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I put a corkscrew in the side pocket as part of the gift.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkzjIp_DBcOxlhJKSxwA_Qsuw0-EuzFmPxlZ4IQ1vYe8JxB65PpxONP89RBERL86tksP23Fze-59QyEMyQF1kw9k0J-8dorcCPC4gq8G49bsA_sVGYoFQIaLwZtNRtPWLfk3otB0f9vaA/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkzjIp_DBcOxlhJKSxwA_Qsuw0-EuzFmPxlZ4IQ1vYe8JxB65PpxONP89RBERL86tksP23Fze-59QyEMyQF1kw9k0J-8dorcCPC4gq8G49bsA_sVGYoFQIaLwZtNRtPWLfk3otB0f9vaA/s1600/003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also made a few tote bags - my DIL's mother teaches second grade. She is encouraging the kids to read and write more on their own, and thought that if they had a neat bag to take home either a book, or a notebook to write in, it might motivate them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also sent along the baby quilt I talked about <a href="http://smalltownquilter.blogspot.com/2014/03/bright-baby-quilt-on-dreary-day.html" target="_blank">here</a>. It's finally on it's way to the new baby.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I finished a bag this week, and it's just in time for a wedding gift.</div>

<div align="center">
I used a pattern from Atkinson Designs, called Wine and Dine.</div>

This bag holds 2 bottles of wine. It has 2 pockets - I think I will put a corkscrew in one of them.</div>

It's so nice to have a divider - it keeps the bottles from clanking together. </div>

The pattern gives clear, easy to follow directions. </div>

We are invited to another wedding next weekend. I'll have to make another one!</div>

It will be a gift for a new baby girl. I know of a lot of babies that will be arriving later this spring and summer, so I will be making more baby quilts. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought this photo shows had good contrast with the brightness of the quilt, to the dull, dreariness of the day today. There are remnants of snow in the background, and it sounds like more snow to come tonight. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My oldest son and daughter-in-law had given me a bunch of 4 inch squares of fabric. There weren't enough for a whole quilt, so I cut a few more. I also cut 2 1/4" squares to make the smaller 4 patch units, and 7 1/2" squares for the larger units. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I machine quilted a quarter of an inch on either side of the blocks, using a variegated purple thread. I probably won't do that again, as I am not liking the dark thread showing up on the fabric. I did some hand quilting - x's across all the largest blocks in white #8 pearl (perle?) cotton. I had a terrible time finding #8 pearl cotton in anything other than white, cream, black and burgundy. I think next time, I'll have to order it online.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a sheet for backing, and I'm not caring for how the quilting shows up. Oh well. Live and learn!</div>
