Raggly Owls is finished!

I finished another baby quilt.  I posted a picture of just the top earlier this month.  I finished the quilting over the weekend.
The back is pieced with some leftovers from the front- bigger pieces that I had on hand.  I didn't have more than a yard of anything, and had used some of the fabric for previous projects.

The owls are raw-edged applique.  I had a little trouble machine quilting around them, so I did pick out some of the stitches, and the quilting around the owls is all done by hand.

It's been washed and dried and is all ready for baby Sophie.  I will take it with me to work tomorrow - we are having a baby shower for her.

One thing I did notice - I had originally just quilted a quarter of an inch on either side of the seams.  In the area around the owls, I hand quilted an "X" on each block.  After washing and drying, the quilt has more of that crinkly look I like in the blocks that have the X's.  Something to remember for future projects!

The Great Granny Along

Are any of you taking part in the Great Granny Along?

the GREAT GRANNY Along

Lori over at Bee in My Bonnet, and Jodi at Pleasant Home are hosting the Great Granny Along...

I seem to be going with a more subdued color scheme than a lot of the folks participating, and I'm not sure how I'm liking mine.  We'll see when I get all the blocks sewn together.
The blocks are easy to make, and a great way to use scraps.

There is a Flickr Group here, with lots of fun blocks.  It's not too late to join!

Babies, babies, everywhere!

It seems like all I've been sewing lately is baby quilts...
Baby boy quilt top, made with Moda's Max and Whiskers.  Also need to make one for his twin brother, and then get them quilted and off to their new home in northern Minnesota.
Baby girl rag quilt, made for baby Kendra, daughter of a co-worker.  I had to re-sew a bunch of the seams, as after it was washed and dried, several of them had opened up.  I've never had this happen before on a rag quilt, but I'm thinking I was a little short in some of the seam allowances.  And while I love the front of this one, I must say the back of it is ugly.  Too ugly to post a picture...... :)
Owl's on a limb, also for a co-worker, for baby Sophie.  I will be quilting it soon.  I don't think this picture is true to color, the grays are definitely gray in person, and they do not have a purple tint to them.
My original design.  I will post more pictures after it's quilted.

We are off to Tennessee later this afternoon.  Helping son #2 find an apartment.  Lots of driving, and probably no stopping to look at fabric.  I'm afraid it will be no Hancocks of Paducah this trip.... :(

See you next week!

Blocks 2, 3 & 4

It's probably time for an update with my Beginners Quilt-Along blocks.  Ok, so they downloaded in random order.  The aqua and red one is week #3.

This one in the grass is week A#4.

 And here is week #2.

I also decided to start one in Christmas fabric.  I am thinking it will make a nice Christmas gift.  Here is week #4 in Christmas fabric.

And here's the link to the Quilt A-long.  It's not too late to join in!
